   Private William Roche

 

New York Volunteers, Company G, 37th Regiment of Infantry, June 7, 1861 - June 22, 1863.

Maternal Great-Grandfather

 Simple Alpha Roster, 37th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, "The Irish Rifles" ROACH, William. 
 His second enlistment was June 14, 1870 at San Francisco, CA  William listed Cork, Ireland as his birthplace (c.1840).
 William Roche was a casualty of hostile Indian skirmishes in early July 1877. At the time of his death he was listed as Private William Roche, Company E, 1st Cavalry. He was a member of 2/Lt Sevier M. Rain's 12 man volunteer scouting party massacred in a ravine at the foot of Craig's Mountain, Idaho, near Cottonwood [Newton Ranch], Idaho Territory on July 3, 1877.

   Sgt. Jacob P. Darmstadt

Regular US Army Cavalry. Serial No. XXXX526.

Aug 27, 1883-Aug 26, 1888, Troop H, 5th US Cavalry, Ft. Leavenworth, KA.

June 4, 1890-3 June 1895, Troop H, 4th US Cavalry, Ft. Walla Walla, Washington Territory.

  US Cavalry, July 16, 1895 to July 15, 1898, Ft. Yellowstone, Wyoming, Retired.

Maternal Grandfather

 Lived in Ft. Yellowstone, Wyoming, [Mammoth Hot Springs] with wife and daughter, and worked in Post PX/Cantine after retirement.
  "Jake" then worked as a Laborer for several years, building roads and bridges in Yellowstone Park. He also ran the Gardiner Power/Electric Generator Plant, located on the south bank of Yellowstone River, in Gardiner, MT.

Jake and his wife "Lizzie" Roche are buried in the Gardiner, MT cemetery.


   Private John W. Martin

World War I

Air Service.

US Army, 1st Aero Squadron, Kelly Field Texas, and Park Field, Tennessee, March 19, 1917-March 27, 1919. US Army Serial No. XXXX157.

Father

  "Jack" served as a mechanic, crew chief on Curtis JN-4 "Jenny" trainers at Ft. Sam Houston & Kelly Field Texas.
A Blacksmith by trade before WWI, Jack was a Blacksmith, Automobile Mechanic, Diamond Driller, Powder man before his death in 1947.
Jack is buried in the Military Section of the Mt. View Cemetery in Livingston, MT  as are his Father, Mother, and one brother Matthew.  His wife Henrietta E. Darmstadt was buried in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in 1985.
