| William Roche was a casualty of hostile Indian skirmishes in early July 1877. At the time of his death he was listed as Private William Roche, Company E, 1st Cavalry. He was a member of 2/Lt Sevier M. Rain's 12 man volunteer scouting party massacred in a ravine at the foot of Craig's Mountain, Idaho, near Cottonwood [Newton Ranch], Idaho Territory on July 3, 1877. |
